Remo Freuler Versus England

It’s Remo Freuler versus England on Saturday as Switzerland are likely to field a side with a player who is currently a Forest player.

Although he has been playing for Bologna since last year, Remo Freuler is still a Nottingham Forest employee and it’s nice to see our players competing in international tournaments.

Freuler will likely move away from the City Ground this summer as he hasn’t performed to an expected standard and therefore failed to get a chance of redemption under Nuno’s guidance.

For many Forest fans, it’s certainly going to be a Remo Freuler versus England clash as we hear all these great things about a midfielder who never seemed to be able to pass a ball in a progressive forward movement in a Forest shirt. He performed well in Italy and notched up a goal in Switzerlands’ last game against the reigning Champions, Italy, to fill our minds will ambiguity and doubt.

Freuler’s goal celebration which saw him skip over an advertising board to share his joy with the fans showed that he does have quick feet, a good finish and commercial agility.

Can Remo Adapt to the English Premier League?

Personally, I doubt if Freuler can adapt to the speed of the Premier League and stretch the game as he does in Italy. He has clearly justified his presence at the tournament and is likely to start on Saturday against a mediocre England side that is lucky to still be in the tournament.

It took a world-class finish from Big Bells Bellingham and a header from a lacklustre Harry Kane to save Southgate’s job and avoid historic humiliation.

It looked almost certain that England would exit the tournament to a lowly ranked opposition and make QPR’s 2012 over-inflated, pre-PSR era wage bill look justifiable.  In footballing terms, If England went out to Slovakia in the 2nd round of an international tournament, it would overshadow Chelsea’s brainless £600million spend to finish twelfth in 2023. Spending half a billion quid and not qualifying for Europe would seem insignificant to an England failure against a team ranked slightly above countries who don’t even consider football to be a national sport.

It will be interesting and terribly depressing for England fans if Freuler does manage to press our left-back and get some joy against England’s defence.

If we can live long enough to endure another England game, we are all hoping that England won’t put us through the same torment this weekend and Kyle Walker will take his mind away from the presence of his former mistress and get on with his usual, fast-paced game.

Remo Freuler Vrs England: should he return to Nottingham?

Ultimately, if Freuler does play well against England – the Premier League’s finest players – it does bring into question whether Forest will consider bringing him back to Nottingham this summer.
I agree with former Forest Captain Stuart ‘Psycho’ Pearce, if the momentum doesn’t arrive at the feet of the England players, they are done. Hopefully, the shock last-minute victory against Slovakia could be the catalyst required to move England forward and qualify for the semis.

What do you think, is Freuler finished at Forest or should he be given another go if he destroys England on Saturday? Come on England!
