Going into this weekend’s interesting clash against Newcastle United, I’m wondering, why isn’t anyone talking about Nicolás Domínguez
Following his September 2023 signing from Bologna, Argentinian midfield dynamo, Nicolás Domínguez, looked as if he would struggle to fit into an involving Forest side with Danilo and Sangare looking to fill the defensive pivot behind Gibbs-White.
A side packed with midfield talents such as Morgan Gibbs-white, Sangare, Danilo and recent additions, Elliot Anderson and James-Ward Prowse, it looked as if Domínguez would have to settle for a role on the sidelines.
However, despite nobody talking about Nicolás Domínguez, he’s contributing quite significantly to Forest’s recent run of form.
Let’s start talking about Nicolás Domínguez.
With stamina, tenacity and the best passing rate in the team, Domínguez has an engine that sees him grace the pitch with precise masterstrokes and allows him to keep going when the opposition is still applying pressure in added time.
I think the reason why nobody is talking about Nicolás Domínguez is because he’s not the creative flair player like Morgan; he’s not banging them in like Chris Wood; he’s not dribbling like Elliot Anderson, and he’s certainly not part of our illustrious back four.
All the stats point to the direct success of the team, like goals, direct assists, goals conceded (or ‘not’ in Forest’s case) saves, and impressive defensive statistics.
When it comes to the determination, passion, holding up the attack further up the field, tidy passing and transition in the final third, nobody is talking about Nicolás Domínguez, and they should be.
Nicolás Domínguez must be giving Nuno nightmares because he has this squad with an abundance of midfield talent and you wouldn’t expect to have to include the Argentine international in the starting lineup, but he almost has to, on merit alone.
Forest legend has something to say.
Although, on the whole, nobody is talking about Nicolás Domínguez, John McGovern has stepped up as an advocate of his style and mentioned that Domínguez deserves more praise than Chris Wood and Matz Sels.
As a former European Cup winner and architectural pulse of a legendary Forest midfield, McGovern is more than qualified to discuss Nicolás Domínguez and the role he plays –https://www.nottinghamforest.news/2024/11/05/john-mcgovern-says-8-5m-nottingham-forest-player-deserves-more-credit-than-chris-wood-and-matz-sels/
Knowing exactly what he is talking about, the former Forest captain pointed out his work ethic and the lack of headline inches for the Argentine. McGovern said he has been ‘outstanding’ and added, “In the last match, it was Nicolás Domínguez who I thought was the best player on the field.”
John McGovern may not be picking the side and I don’t envy Nuno having to do so. This Sunday’s clash will see an enthusiastic Elliot Anderson who will be well up for the clash against his former club and Morgan Gibbs-White will be itching for more minutes following his recent recovery from an ankle injury.
Are we still going to be talking about Nicolás Domínguez?
Morgan looked as dedicated as ever when he started and even Ward-Prowse must be itchcing to go after sitting out last week’s game. Ryan Yates is at the City Ground against a Newcastle side with the third-best defensive record in the league – just behind Nottingham Forest – and it’s the kind of gritty affair where Forest are going to need soemone like Ryan to inflict his usual presence on the game.
But are we still going to be talking about Nicolás Domínguez after Sunday’s game?
I hope so but I couldn’t argue if any of those players I have mentioned started. As long as we are talking about another positive Forest performance, I couldn’t care less if nobody is talking about Nicolás Domínguez again. Just as long as Domínguez remains part of a successful Forest squad and he keeps putting in a shift, Forest fans will be happy and the media will be discussing the attributes of Nicolás Domínguez in more detail.
It’s going to be another close game on Sunday and Newcastle will also have Anthony Taylor and VAR again as the twelfth man. Really?
I can taste victory.
We got the Leicester City prediction bang-on despite thinking that it might end in a draw. The 2-1 prediction against West Ham might have been a reality if the West Ham players could a least try and stay on the pitch, but I’m going with 2-1 to Forest again.
I really think there will only be a goal in it, especially as both teams defend so well, but I can taste the victory and smell the sweet European nights again. We have momentum; they have a win against Arsenal, and Forest have a home advantage at the City Ground so COYR!
