Since the 2021-22 season, football fans and pundits have spoken fondly about the Brighton model.
With former city trader and gambling addict, Tony Bloom, at the helm, the Brighton model has been all about financial tenacity and minimising loss.
Financial tenacity begins at the top.
Since promotion in 2017, with failed Nottingham Forest manager Chris Houghton, Brighton and Hove Albion have gone from strength to strength.
Buying young players within the mid-tier market and selling them for huge profits, the Brighton model has become the envy of the Premier League…….until Saturday.
Forest have been looking closely at how Brighton manages its financial affairs and has been looking to replicate the Brighton model since gaining promotion back into the Premier League, in 2022.
Reflecting on the Brighton model.
However, according to owner, Evangelos Marinakis, there is no way Forest wants to follow in Brighton’s footprints.
“We have been reflecting on what the Brighton model means to us. We tasted a heavy defeat against Bournemouth, and cricket scores aren’t our thing. Brighton were probably the worst team we’ve faced this season. They were tactically suicidal and, if Nuno had humiliated the club like that, I would have executed his ass within a heartbeat.”
Brighton rock has lost its flavour.
“We want a different model,” continued Mr. Marinakis, “we want one that isn’t about collapse and humiliation. We want a club that is built on a clear identity with dedicated support staff, without getting trounced 7-0.”
“It was tough for our players to witness. They didn’t want to have to inflict that kind of result on a fellow Premiership side that we hold in such high regard.”
“They were so traumatized by having to celebrate so many goals,” concluded the Greek shipping magnate. “We are now looking to remove the scenes of Brighton’s ineptitude from their minds with a series of pushups and a week in the sun. I’ve decided to send Nuno and the boys to Dubai for a week.”
Hopefully the additional vitamin ‘D’ will remove the habit of defeat completely from their minds and allow them to concentrate on the stress of scoring early and winning by the odd goal.
